Workplace and Safety Training! What are the incentives?

 

 

The Learning Centre has opportunities for workplace and safety training and certification through use of interactive CD-ROMs or self-teach manuals. We offer:

  WHMIS

  Construction Safety Training

  TDG - Clear Language     

  “On Board” Boat Safety

W.H.M.I.S.                                                  $55.00

(Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)

Basic WHMIS is now available on a self-paced interactive CD. Learn how hazardous materials are classified and labelled. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Alberta Government regulations will also be covered. Call The Learning Centre to schedule your time on one of our public access computers. Work at your own pace to complete the WHMIS course and receive certification.

C.S.T.S.                                     $75.00

(Construction Safety Training System)

CSTS is being offered on an individual basis through a self-paced interactive CD-ROM. Topics include safe work practices and procedures, workplace hazards, protective equipment, ladders and scaffolding, machinery and equipment hazards, excavating and trenching, hazardous waste and generic WHMIS. This program gives the individual and employer the flexibility of training at a time that is convenient to the individual. Phone The Learning Centre at 854-2099 to reserve your time slot on one of our public access computers.

T.D.G.                             $50.00

(Transportation of Dangerous Goods -

Clear Language Edition)

This self-teach manual includes responsibilities of the shipper, handler and carrrier, hazards of classes 1 to 9, UN numbers, shipping documents, containers, safety marks and emergency procedures. After successfully completing the competency check, you will be ready to have your employer provide specific on-site safety training and sign your TDG Training Certificate.

Canadian Red Cross “On Board” Boat Safety Training

All operators of power driven, pleasure craft under 4 m (including PWCs) now require this certification. By September 15, 2009, ALL operators of power driven pleasure craft will be required to be certified.

 

Take your Canadian Coast Guard accredited test at The Learning Centre, a designated Canadian Red Cross Authority. Once you have successfully passed your test, a Pleasure Craft Operator Card will be issued to you.

If you wish to study at home you may purchase the CD or workbook but testing

must be completed at The Learning Centre.

To qualify for annual Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR) rebates (5% to 20% of a company’s WCB premiums), a company must maintain its COR Program and meet the requirements of the PIR Program.


What is a Health and Safety Management System?

Components of a working Health and Safety Management System include a health and safety policy, identification of health and safety hazards, control measures to eliminate or reduce hazard risks, worker training, an inspection program, incident reporting and investigation, emergency response planning and program administration through documentation of policy, hazard assessments, employee training, inspections, investigations and safety meetings.


Who can achieve a Certificate of Recognition?

An employer who meets provincial standards for its health and safety management system can proceed to achieve a Certificate of Recognition through a Certifying Partner. A Certifying Partner is an organization that has committed to working in partnership with Workplace Health and Safety, a department of Alberta Human Resources and Employment.
